It is a lot of fun to watch a dirt bike speeding through the track. It is more fun to ride one. And it is fantastic to ride along with your friends. Having a bike is a responsibility too; to maintain it, repair wear and tear and protect it from all the dangers out there. While riding a motorcycle, one should take care of their safety by wearing a helmet, wearing jackets, hand gloves, elbow and knee guard etc.

Now you took care of your body but, the bike remains vulnerable to the stir caused in the tracks and off-roads.

You can protect the bike from the gnarly road, debris and stones that can harm your bike. Protective parts like bash guards/plates can shield your frame/underside of the bike. It can protect it from the stones and sand that could damage the engine and nearby parts. The frame guard will protect the bike’s frame and provide a grip for the rider to hold on to the bike. Better control and safety is achieved with a single item.

There are many protective parts available for the dirt bike, but let’s discuss the essential parts (6) one has to fit in their dirt bike if he loves his bike.

The 6 essential protective parts for a dirt bike are:

  • Handguard
  • Radiator guards
  • Radiator braces
  • Bash guards
  • Frame guard
  • Skid plates

  • handguard

The handguards are not just used in dirt bikes but also on enduro and motocross as well. It will protect the brakes, handles as well as your hands from debris and stones.

There are two types of handguards- a standard plastic handguard and an aluminium wrap-around handguard. For motocross riders, the traditional handguard is preferred, and for off-roaders, a wrap-around style handguard is suited.

  • Radiator guards

These are the protective parts attached in front of the radiator to safeguard it from debris and sand. Radiator guards also provide strength and stability to the bike.

  • Radiator braces

The name is similar to the radiator guards, but the radiator braces are fitted on the rear side of the radiator. It provides strength and support to the radiator, and in case of an accident or collision, it prevents the radiator from bending.

  • Bash guards

The bash guard is seen in Enduro and off-road rides. It protects the engine and nearby frame/parts from debris and dust while riding on a tortuous road.

  • Frame guard

A frame guard plays the dual role of protective gear as well as control support equipment. The frame shields the bike from damages and scratches, which increases the resale value of the bike.

It also provides a proper grip on the bike using one’s inner side of legs, resulting in better handling of the bike.

  • Skid plates

Usually, motocross bikes are equipped with skid plates. It is very lightweight and strong. It is fitted under the engine and is seen a little extended beyond the frame. It protects the engine from debris and hard impacts while riding.

These are the main parts that will help to maintain the bike as it was bought, and there are some other protective parts that play an important role too. Those parts are engine case guards, exhaust guards, disk brake guards, case savers, fork shoe protectors, swingarm protectors, and seat covers.

By using these protective parts, one doesn’t just improve the lasting of the bike but also increases the resale value as it gets the least impacts from the track.
